Business Intelligence Reporting

Reporting is the process of presenting data gathered in a data warehouse to the end users in a readable, reliable and secure way. It includes accessing the data (usually stored in a data warehouse or data mart), formatting it, applying a graphical outlook and distributing it across the organization (via a web portal, email, shared folders or embedded in external applications).

There are a few major Business Intelligence report types:

  • Managed reports - usually developed by IT, can be flexibly customized through prompting and filtering and sent out with a scheduling engine.
  • Production reports - pixel-perfect, able to print high volume of data.
  • Operational and transactional reports - detailed reports usually based on an operational or transactional source database.
  • Statement-style financial reports.
