TIBCO Master Data Management
A need for timely and accurate data often is the only thing which different companies manage to find in common. Regardless of their types and sizes, they can benefit from TIBCO MDM, which is a Master Data Management solution flexible and scalable enough to meet the increasing needs of today's data management sufficiently.
Today's organizations are in need for more and more information in better and better quality. It no longer can be meaningless if the information originates from before a few minutes or a few days. Data timeliness and accuracy are crucial to every organization in every market. In many cases, these requirements are the only what different companies have in common. However, different are not only the organizations' needs, but also the solutions and methods they choose to address them. So called Business Intelligence is polarizing constantly and there is a few directions which the IT systems they use move in. One of such directions is increasing the attention paid to Master Data Management as a remedy for increasing data management requirements.
TIBCO –one of the Master Data Management solution vendors –offers a system which is equally efficient in case of the tiniest and the largest organizations. In case of single data sources and in case of multiple data sources attached to each department across the organization.
However, there are two meaningful directions possible to distinguish within Master Data Management. One is PIM (Product Information Management), and another is CDI (Customer Data Information). Even though each of these direction is a derivative of different problems, they have a lot in common, thereupon TIBCO MDM solution can take care about both of them at once equally efficiently.
TIBCO point of view on MDM
MDM Solution by TIBCO seems to be comprehensive - its core is a harmonized central repository and, simultaneously, a point of reference for all master data types. By building an independent distributed master data layer (which is located outside of ERP systems and other monolithic solutions), it synchronizes the subsets of data with appropriate transactional applications.
TIBCO MDM - from another point of view - is a multi-domain solution which bases on one single platform to serve master data of all the types. However, TIBCO MDM isn't prepared just for storing the data. Additionally, it helps with keeping an eye on information flow equally well as on the proceeding of governance processes.
The most important from the customer point of view of TIBCO MDM solution's applications is TIBCO Collaborative Information Manager, being somehow a command center for the whole. In a very few words its capabilities may be boiled down to:
- Enterprise Information Managements with all its aspects and details,
- further than ever before automation of business processes,
- both, internal and external synchronization,
- multiple reporting and analytics options,
- numerous templates and best practices addition.
Besides the TIBCO Collaborative Information Manager, which actually is the core of the whole TIBCO MDM, the solution contains another two tools - TIBCO MDM Analytics and TIBCO MDM Studio. The role of the first of them, basically, may be boiled down to providing the users with an intuitive and easy to use interface for reporting appliances. The second one, on the other hand, is used for creating data models, business rules, and business processes (all from within a single and intuitive interface). These three together (including the Collaborative Information Manager) turn TIBCO MDM into a truly comprehensive solution which can be used for different initiatives within SOA, EDW, and BPM areas of interest equally efficiently.

https://docs.tibco.com/pub/mdm/9.2.0/doc/html/GUID-DFB7FA6D-14CB-4188-8E4F-C27F71EA1E1D.html - here's a subpage of TIBCO official website, devoted to Master Data Management. Besides a few information about the solution itself, what one could find there is a lot of cases and briefs, each interesting and - definitely - worth reading. Additionally, there are two demos included, but the white papers seem worth more attention.
http://media.tibco.com/flash/mdm/tib_MDM_preso.html - here is quite an interesting presentation by TIBCO specialist. Basically, there are a few questions connected with Master Data Management as a whole explained in a few words and, after that, a lot of attention is paid to TIBCO MDM solution with its core part - Collaborative Information Manager.
http://www.tibco.com/multimedia/mdm-consistent-info_tcm8-817.pdf - the document behind the link is called a general overview of TIBCO MDM solution overview. In point of fact, there is a whole page devoted to Master Data Management as a whole, and a lot about the benefits of using TIBCO MDM. However, it's not the greatest source of information about the solution itself, paradoxically, as the details included are few.
http://www.tibco.com/products/business-optimization/data-governance/master-data-management/default.jsp - here is another source of information found in TIBCO's official website. It seems to be more details about the TIBCO MDM solution itself here, and what one could be interested in is diving a little bit deeper to the part devoted to the Collaborative Information Manager. There is quite a detailed section included so that everyone could find everything he needs about CIM.
